Composition with Fire Truck in the Fall

First series taken with my new camera, the Panasonic G1. I was doing a shoot in my home and we had her sillhouetted against the window when we realized there was a fire truck in the lonely subdivision on the other side of the park. I asked her to go outside and look at the truck through the top of a broken picket in the back fence. She was a trooper and did so, even though it was windy and cold! I love the pose and the reverse voyeur feeling of the nude looking over the fence at the firement.

Wings and a Star at the Fair

Today you get a double treat of tattoos at the fair!

I noticed the black straps surrounding the tattoo and was intriqued by the writing that was only partially showing. I asked her if I could take a photo and she was very happy to allow it.



I gave her my card and told her if she needed any other photography to give me a call. Her friend piped up and they were from out of town, working one of the booths in the expo building selling shammies I think.

But she said she gets around so she would keep my card, just in case.

I was eating my required fair meal of italian sausage and notice this couple talking at the table in front of me.

The guy was clingy, wrapping his arms around her again and again, kissing her cheek and generally seeming to want to possess her. She on the other hand simply sat there eating and talking, never once turning to him.



The wind blew her hair and I notice the star tattoo. I went up and asked her if I could take a photo of it and the guy butted in and answered quickly and authoritatively, 'sure you can'. I looked to her and she said 'yes'.

I later saw them walking towards the parking lot and he still had her wrapped up in his arms. It didn't seem to be a good type of wrapping.

Backs and Straps at the State Fair #1

One of the best aspects of the State Fair for me is the plethora of fantastic backs and straps. The design combinations are never ending.



I liked this one in particular because of the bright lime green X across the middle of her back.

A Woman Looking At Herself

This collage combines two photos from a shoot I did with a fellow co-worker at the
Restaurant where I worked. The color images in the background of the framed image are
of the SF bay on one side and of the Nevada desert on the other.



There had been a photo of a nude male on the wall in that location and I originally
posed her to be looking at it. But it seemed tacky and I didn't really like the photo of
the guy so I decided to put an image of my own in its place.

photos in Red, White and Blue now could I!



This was taken on July 4th, 2007 in Frisco, Colorado at the town parade. A perfect way to show
the american colors and still be stylish. I like it.

Color Composition #9

Last in the series of Color Compositions taken in June, 2008 at the Cherry Street Farmer's Market in Tulsa, OK.
Next week it's all about the USA!



I like this one a lot due to the bag being right down the middle of the image. I have been working on a REALLY old laptop since
January 08 and I have been doing the color based on that monitor. Now I am on my new computer and I realize how many of my
images are oversaturated. But in this case I think I like it!

Color Composition #10

Another Color Composition in my week+ long series. This one was taken mostly because
her blue strap was so beautiful running across her purple shirt. The black shirt with
the orange stripes in the distance is the perfect counterpoint to balance it out. I
tried a version with the orange stripes cropped out and it was not nearly as
interesting.

Who Are Your Role Models?

This is post #6 of a week long series showing pages from my 'Sketchbook with Voices'
book from back in the 80s and 90s.

This page was filled with questions that I answered by using letter press letters (the
old fashion way, before digital, of graphic designing text with fonts). The model and
I were at the beach in Santa Cruz, California and I took close ups of her against a
cliff to collage. These were from the proof sheet that was made of the shots.

This collage is in a book called 'Sketchbook with Voices'. It is actually a
sketchbook of blank pages with an idea,question,statement or assignment by an artist.
I got it way back in the 80s and decided to use it for photo sketches instead of
regular drawings. This image is probably the only image in the whole book that has
any drawing in it at all.

The black and white image in the background was taken by me during a photo shoot with
a friend. My sister-in-law at the time knew that I liked tan lines and took the
color photo of her friend while on vacation in Mexico and sent it to me.

You can see digital versions of this type of image, people in a museum looking at
some huge photo on the wall, which is actually the photo of the person making the
image. Just remember where they got the idea, ok? LOL

We Saw Beautiful - Colorado Post Card #7

Another in my postcard series, #7 from our Colorado road trip in the summer of 2007. There was a great trail close to the home where we were staying and I took a hike on my own just for the purposes of photography. When I do something like that I often am not looking for a single shot (though I find those of course) but I am looking for pieces, for moments, etc. that will be part of the raw material for a collage. So in that case I am not worrying always about composition or lighting or a complete image. I am finding the essence of a place or a person and recording it.

In this case the trees had the knots in the shapes of eyes everywhere I turned, flowers were abundant and the creeks had the most amazing light playing on them. The final connection came for me when I saw this woman and her wonderful dog running on the path. The dog was protective and turned to scrutinize me, making sure I wasn't a threat. The eyes of the dog were compelling and I loved the juxtaposition between the tree eyes and the real eyes.
